How do I translate a PICO question into search terms?
Answer
Once you've formulated your PICO question, the easiest way to begin finding sources is by breaking down your question into its component pieces. If, for example, you were doing research on disproportionate cases of high blood pressure in Native American males since 2000, you might try searching for 'blood pressure demographics' to begin finding a list of datapoints by ethnicity to use as a base. Another way to do it is to try to search more specific article titles related to your question, either by reformulating your question or just searching for scholarly articles on related fields of study. In this case, one might search for articles highlighting ethnicities with abnormal blood pressure values, or search for surveys of the overall health of Native American males.
